Wonder how you will be treated once you have the card? How does Canadian Tire treat their customers?
NO!!!!! Please don’t get one from Canadian Tire!! Get one through Citibank or anywhere else but canadian Tire.
Why? If somehow a payment is late (as it sometimes happens to the best of us) rude people will call your home, work and cell twice a day. It doesn’t matter if it is your first time being late, that you have perfect credit, that you may have spent tens of thousands of dollars at canadian tire. They will call, and call and call…I am not exagerating.
My dad had a Canadian Tire Mastercard for more than 30 years, paying every bill on time and not carrying a balance as he did with every bill he has ever received. He takes pride in not even having mortgages on homes that he has owned for over 40 years.
My dad is almost 80, and by mistake he wrote a cheque to Canadian Tire on an old cheque book for an account that is closed. (He may have simply picked up an old cheque book from the desk drawer). A week later he had a heart attack, and Canadian Tire started calling the home.
The amount of the cheque which was the balance owing? 58 dollars. Fifty-eight dollars.
I told them the situation, and if they were to send something in writing, I would take it to the bank to figure out why the cheque bounced, seeing that my father has a lot of money in the bank and there was no apparent reason that it would bounce. I said it would likely take a week as my dad wasn’t able to even get out of bed, and I had to establish that I had power of attorney in order to be allowed to participate in his financial affairs.
They called the home twice a day despite this explanation. The cheque had been written August 3, and it was now August 17. Without exception, every person to call my parents home was rude and insisted on speaking to my father. Keep in mind this is over 58 dollars and the bill was about 2 weeks overdue.
I spoke to a supervisor, explaining the situation. He said he was mortified at how Canadian Tire was treating us. In 19 years working for Canadian Tire, he had never seen such outrageous treatment of such an excellent customer - especially when the customer was now critically ill. He promised to put an end to the calls and apologized.
That night the calls started again. Same rude treatment. She would not read the notes on file as I requested. In fact she said there were ‘NO NOTES’ on his file about the discussion that I had had with the supervisor. She just kept telling me to put my father on the phone. My father who is bedridden and on oxygen.
I told her to put a supervisor on the phone and waited for 5 MINUTES. The supervisor came on the phone and immediately started to apologize to me….but the damage has already been done.
Please: place your hard-earned dollars in another company’s good hands. Not with Canadian Tire.
